The Proposition
Pass and Don't Pass are well known bets for any Craps player, beginner or not but Craps has a good variety of bets that are good ones too, like PROPOSITION.
Proposition is a bet that can be found on the centre of the table next to the hard ways bets. This kind of bet is also known as hopping or on the hop.
Hop bet is a bet that you can be a kamikaze and win or lose on the very next roll of the dice. Let's see a example of this, let's say that you bet on 6-2 hopping, this means that you are betting that on the roll of the dice you will get 8 in total (6 in one dice and 2 in another) if this happens, you win. But if you get a 5 and 3 or 4 and 4 you don't win because you bet on 6 and 2.
The one roll bet has a designated spot on the game layout. The whole horn, 11 or 12 are considered as a hop bet but this term is only applied to the obscure bets that are not very often placed.
On the table you can find a proposition box with a button labelled as the name of the bet (hop) if you are going to bet on 6-2 or 4-1. The dealers will keep track on which the bet belongs. It is very rare to see someone betting on hop bets made on non Craps or 11 rolls. This happens because mostly don't even know that it is possible to bet and to be honest there isn't even a good chance for you to win on it.
The hop bets bring low probability to win but high payoffs. Depending on the casinos you can get payoffs like 15 times your bet or even 16 if play on hop bets that are non-pairs like 3-2, or 5-4.
If you play for pairs the payout are even greater. If you get pairs like 4-4 or 2-2 you can get a payout of 30 times your bet or even 31 (again, depending on the casino). A bet on pairs is also known as hopping hard way.
Hop bets are not part of any strategy; they are more like fun bets just for the thrill. The best time to place this kind of bet is usually when the shooter has been rolling for a while. For example if the shooter gets 9 as point number you can decide on placing a hop bet on 5-4 or 6-3 and if you get lucky you will see some great income in your way.
It is very important that you don't lose control and keep betting on Proposition, this kind of bet is not a safe one like pass and don't pass, it can be done just for fun and a little excitement, but you have to be prepared to lose the money that you bet on a hop.
